continue ：普通用詞。或指持續而不停止，或有一段中斷後又繼續下去。

He had lunch and then continued his work．（他午飯後繼續工作。）

resume ：指中斷後的繼續。

He resumed his work after a short rest（他休息片刻后又繼續進行工作。）

succeed ：側重指有規律地連續。

His speech was succeeded by a silence．（他講演后緊接著是一片沉默。）

go on ：通俗用詞，多用於口語中。go on+－ing表暫停後繼續做原事，即後繼續的內容與原來的內容相同。go on+不定式指做完某事後，接著做不同的另一件事。
