2012年初，班尼·布蘭科以及星門團隊在紐約城工作室創作歌曲，同時他們在工作室完成了《Diamonds（In The Sky）》的初始版本。然而班尼和星門團隊並沒有考慮將《Diamonds（In The Sky）》由蕾哈娜演唱，他們考慮由說唱歌手坎耶·維斯特進行演唱。在歌曲譜曲完畢后，Sia加入了歌曲的創作並在14分鐘內完成了歌詞撰寫。歌曲創作完畢后，蕾哈娜接受了歌曲並進行試唱。歌曲先後在紐約城工作室以及洛杉磯的西湖工作室完成錄製。

在《Diamonds》中，蕾哈娜全情投入，蕾哈娜在唱出第一句歌詞時，這聲音就像口香糖一樣緊緊纏在我們的腦海里再難擺脫。歌曲與她以往的火爆勁歌、洗腦電音不同，回歸了R&B。在製作和演唱的處理上，走的也是復古圓潤的路線。歌曲的簡譜由B小調構成，被定義為中拍類型節奏歌曲，歌曲的節拍為每分鐘92次，蕾哈娜的音域從低音符的F跨越到高音符的D。

在MV中，蕾哈娜身著一襲透明長裙，背後有汽車等物體火勢蔓延，與電影《魔女嘉莉》中的造型不謀而合。MV中還出現閃亮的鑽石，碧藍的海水，火紅的火焰，在色彩上帶有濃重的文藝氣息。時光倒流，蕾哈娜從狂野之中回歸平靜，將自己置身於浩瀚無際的大海之中。在MV中還有蕾哈娜親身上陣在濃煙瀰漫的環境下拍攝車禍爆炸的驚險特寫鏡頭。
