該片講述了行為古怪，有點害羞的Ed Gein其實是個變態殺人狂的故事。
在50年代末，美國的小鎮Plainfield。在這個642戶人口的小鎮上什麼都不曾發生過，即使第二次世界大戰也未曾過多地擾亂人們平靜的日子。也許Ed Gein（史蒂夫·瑞爾斯拜克 飾）只是一個行為古怪，有點害羞的人，他只想一個人和媽媽在自己的農場上簡簡單單地過一輩子。但是這裡太閉塞了，收穫的穀物也早就腐爛在倉庫里無人問津，媽媽也去世了。
