約翰·斯潘塞 因心臟病突發在洛杉磯去世，享年58歲。巧合的是，斯賓塞在劇中飾演的角色曾突發心臟病，但很快恢復，投入新一屆總統競選。

斯潘塞憑藉1990年在法庭驚悚片《假定無罪》中飾演哈里森·福特的偵探拍檔而備受注目，因出演《白宮風雲》曾獲2002年艾美獎最佳男配角，並多次獲艾美獎及金球獎提名。
