影片將浮士德的故事加以變奏，放入巫術、謀殺和異國風情等作料，泡製成一部典型的驚栗恐怖片。故事背景是美國西方的新奧爾良市，當地正舉行熱鬧的狂歡節，卻出現了一名恐怖的連續殺人狂。這名男子將靈魂出賣給魔鬼，總是在狂歡節的最後一天行兇，警探逮住了他的肉體，但卻被附在他身上的魔鬼糾纏得苦不堪言。於是警探向一名女巫師求救，而他的上司也發現了去年發生的狂歡節兇殺案與此有關的線索，於是他決定向惡魔反擊，但卻危害到他的前妻和新交的女友性命不保。與萊斯利-安．唐則飾演警探透納和他的前妻。

A徠 man sells his soul to the devil and shows up on a killing spree at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Leaving a trail of bodies, the apparently indestructible demon challenges the detective to stop him by the end of Mardis Gras or lose his soul. With help from a voodoo lady and his police captain, who remembers the demon from a past Mardis Gras, he gets closer, but risks the destruction of his ex-wife and newly found girlfriend.
