影片主人公是和母親相依為命的16歲澳洲女孩海蒂，長久的平淡生活和青春躁動讓她嚮往邂逅激情，用身體和情感的交融撫慰心中的渴望。海蒂離開堪培拉來到金德拜恩，遇到了當地富家子弟喬，兩人間發生了一段錯綜複雜的愛欲糾葛，隨著同海蒂關係的進展，喬發現自己對性和階級的觀念以及對未來的設想也在經受著種種考驗。在他人的生活和寬容心理的影響下，海蒂逐漸認知了愛情、家庭和友情的真正內涵。
