Human的創作圍繞著這樣一個概念：一個人失去了與上帝的溝通，只在一次糟糕的經歷中向上帝傾訴，而上帝則試圖同情他的痛苦，而作為對這個人的回應，上帝問作為人類是什麼感覺。

由於樂隊成員都是基督教徒，Ryan Tedder在Twitter上說，他認為這首歌的創作是有風險的，甚至是褻瀆上帝。然而，樂隊的成員Brent Kutzle的父親是一個牧師，他在研讀歌詞后支持歌曲的發行。

這張專輯，OH MY MY，實際上一度被命名為Human，因為這張專輯是包含了著做人的經驗。
