《What Makes You Beautiful》將One Direction組合所有的偶像的特點發揮到了極致，它有著上口的曲調和陽光的歌詞。該曲的部分旋律和電影《油脂》中的歌曲《Summer Nights》極為相似，讓人忍不住抖起腳來。此外，該曲還包括了一段輕鬆愉快的吉他流行旋律。總體而言，這是一首天真可愛，可以攪動氣氛的歌曲。

該曲的MV由John Urbano執導。MV開始於One Direction成員乘坐著一輛橙色的露營車來到海邊，MV的主要內容是組合成員們和幾個女孩在海邊、沙灘上唱歌跳舞以及嬉戲玩樂的場景。在最後的合唱中，組合成員們和女孩們坐在篝火旁，點燃煙火併拍照。儘管該MV顯得有些廉價甚至缺乏誠意，但仍有聽眾為One Direction成員們帥氣年輕的臉龐埋單。

《老子名叫趙日天》是一首網友改編歌曲，歌詞改編自ACFUN匿名區的一個匿名版神串No.1738904，曲調則改編自《what makes you beautiful》。歌曲於2014年5月4日23時48分發佈於ACFUN，由UP主“一大碗雪橇”演唱。

單向樂隊原是五人組合，成員包括：Liam Payne，Louis Tomlinson，Niall Horan，Harry Styles和Zayn Malik。Zayn Malik於2015年3月25號宣布退出單向樂隊。Zayn Malik他們作為個人選手通過了The X Factor(英國偶像--一檔英國選秀節目，由Simon創辦)第七季（2010）選拔賽，進入了訓練營，卻沒有成功進入男生組評委之家。在評委Nicole Scherzinger的提議下，五個青少年組成了一個組合，從而晉級並最終進入了決賽，成為了當季比賽的季軍。通過The X Factor海選的偶像組合“單向樂隊”首單《What Makes You Beautiful》，這五個少年偶像的笑容就像青春年華里的最燦爛的陽光。
