主要從事地質微生物學與微生物礦化綜合研究,在微生物多樣性、微生物地理分佈、微生物礦化機理和鐵元素循環的微生物調控機制等方面開展了較系統的研究。已發表論文30餘篇,其中以第一作者在The ISME Journal、Environmental Microbiology、Applied and Environmental Microbiology、Molecular Microbiology、Scientific Reports、《科學通報》、《中國科學: 地球科學》等刊物上發表論文10餘篇,2篇論文被選為期刊封面文章;在施普林格 (Springer) 出版社出版英文專著一本;擔任第一特邀編輯在國際期刊Frontiers in Microbiology組織"Intracellular Biomineralization in Bacteria"微生物礦化專輯;獲得國家發明專利一項。現任Frontiers in Aquatic Microbiology的Guest Associate Editor,並擔任多種國際、國內期刊的審稿人。
