夏定國是北京大學工學院能源與資源工程系&先進材料與納米技術系教授、博士生導師。北京大學工學院能源與資源工程系副主任。先進電池材料理論與技術北京市重點實驗室主任,北京市高等學校撥尖創新人才,北京市科研創新團隊帶頭人,北京市化工學會常務理事,中國儀器儀錶學會能源材料分會理事。

研究領域涉及低鉑及非鉑催化劑、鋰插入化合物和電化學治理微量有機物污染的廢水。在鋰插入化合物及催化劑的成份設計、電化學性能及與微觀結構關係方面做過大量的研究工作,主持或參與完成了國家自然科學基金、國家科技部八六三、九七三和省部級項目的研究,同時,致力於材料基礎理論在工程實際中的應用。
從事材料物理化學及環境電化學基礎研究工作。
