作者Linda Creed是在與乳腺癌作鬥爭的時候寫下的這首歌。字裡行間描述了一個人在迎接生命中所必須面對的挑戰時，無論成敗都要堅強，並把這種力量傳遞給孩子們，讓他們去把這種力量帶到自己的成年生活中去。Linda Creed最終在1986年4月去世，年僅37歲；當時，這首歌正因為惠特尼的翻唱而紅遍全球。

此曲由香港著名歌手陳百強翻唱，曲名《至愛》，收錄於1986年《凝望》專輯。
這首歌的原唱是George Benson，原名The Greatest Love of All，曾作為1977年拳王阿里首部自傳電影《The Greatest》的主題曲。後來惠特尼休斯頓在專輯中翻唱，並更名為Greatest Love of All。
