主要從事生物無機化學方向的科研工作，研究硒、稀土與重大疾病的關係及預防機制、硒蛋白的生物功能及與疾病的關係等，尤其是對硒的生物效應、硒蛋白的生物功能及與疾病的關係有較深入的研究。近些年開始從事一些無機固體化學方面的研究，主要合成一些無機納米材料並尋求其在生命科學中的應用。
