1993.8 ——今：講師、副教授、教授，北京大學生命科學學院； 1999.1 ——2000.12：訪問學者，瑞典隆德大學系統植物學系； 1988.7 ——1990.9：助教，河南大學生物系； 1990.9 ——1993.8:中國科學院植物研究所攻讀博士學位； 1985.9 ——1988.7: 中國科學院西北植物研究所攻讀碩士學位； 1981.9 ——1985.7: 河南農業大學讀學士學位。

現任中國植物學會理事、系統與進化植物學專業委員會主任、北京市植物學會秘書長、《植物分類學報》副主編。

系統與進化植物學：運用宏觀至微觀多學科之手段，通過儲集於分子、細胞、組織、器官、個體、居群、物種、生態及地理分佈之信息（性狀）的綜合分析，研究植物類群的起源、分化和散布，探討植物類群地理分佈格局的形成過程及成因，揭示植物類群的進化歷史及其系統發育。植物居群生物學和保護遺傳學：研究植物居群的遺傳結構、時空動態變化及其影響因子，尤其是植物交配系統的變異與演化對居群遺傳結構的影響；研究探討物種形成的式樣和機制；探討植物遺傳多樣性產生、維持和喪失的原因和機制，建立植物遺傳多樣性保護和利用的理論基礎和技術體系。
